Background:

The Draft Biosecurity Weed Control Program 2024-2029 is currently on public exhibition. This program will allow Council to take even greater control of priority weeds in our Shire.

The program aligns with both the South-East Regional Strategic Weed Management Plan (SERSWMP) and the NSW Invasive Species Plan (ISP). This ensures we're tackling regional weed problems while also focusing on species specific to our area.

Aims of the Draft Biosecurity Weed Control Program 2024-2029:

The program will allow the Biosecurity team to provide:

  • Education: We'll provide residents with resources and information to help identify and manage weeds on their properties.
  • Contracted Works: For large-scale infestations or situations requiring specialised expertise, we'll engage qualified contractors.
  • Regulatory Enforcement: In cases of non-compliance with weed control regulations, the Biosecurity Team may take appropriate enforcement action.

The program prioritises weeds based on a rigorous Weed Risk Management System (WRMS) assessment conducted by independent experts. This ensures we're targeting the most significant risks to our local biodiversity.

The program adheres to best practices and fulfils our General Biosecurity Duty (GBD) under the Biosecurity Act (2015).
