Background Information

Christmas Highlands 2025 – 2028 plan is the beginning of a fresh, community-inspired approach to Christmas across our Shire.

In response to valuable community feedback received last year, we acknowledge the opportunity for enhancement in the delivery of Council's Christmas experience. The development of Christmas Highlands directly addresses this, enabling Council to adopt a more strategic, thoughtful, and intentional approach.

Christmas Highlands sets out a three year vision for how we can come together to make Christmas more vibrant, inclusive and locally inspired. The plan provides a roadmap for Council and the broader community to work collaboratively and deliver an experience that goes beyond just decorations and events - it’s about revitalising our towns and villages, strengthening our community connections, supporting local businesses, and most importantly, fostering a sense of pride and belonging for everyone.

Explore the draft plan and let us know have we got it right, what matters most to you, and how you might like to get involved.

Christmas Highlands will be delivered in accordance with Council’s commitment to community vibrancy, inclusion, and local identity. It is guided by the following overarching principles:

Festive Principles

  • Community-Led, Council-Enabled

Empower local communities, groups, and volunteers to shape and deliver Christmas experiences, with Council providing coordination, support, and facilitation

  • Inclusive and Joyful for All

Create welcoming, accessible, and joyful Christmas experiences for everyone across Wingecarribee, with activations designed to build social connection, pride and festive spirit

  • Unique and Locally Inspired

Deliver Christmas experiences that reflect the distinctive character of Wingecarribee’s towns and landscapes - prioritising creativity, sustainability, and locally made contributions that enhance public spaces and support local economic activity

  • Small Actions, Big Impact

From decorating a tree to hosting a market, every small contribution adds up to something magical

Your feedback is a way for you to share your thoughts and ideas on a particular issue or project. The goal is to make sure your voice and the community’s voices are heard and considered. It helps provide valuable insights, identify potential issues and suggest improvements. This way, decisions can be more inclusive, transparent and effective, reflecting what you and the community really needs and wants.

Responses to engagement projects are compiled and considered. When projects are reported to Council to make a decision a summary of community feedback will be included. Updates on projects will be included in these pages and elsewhere on Council's website.

Sometimes it takes some months to provide feedback to the community and to make a decision as further investigation is often needed. We are listening and we do take your suggestions on board!
