We all know the people of Wingecarribee value safety! We want to feel safe in our homes, in our towns and villages but what does that look like and how can we achieve it?

We are currently seeking feedback from the community to develop a new Community Safety Plan. We want to hear your thoughts on how safe you feel in our parks, public spaces, and on the streets. Your input will help us understand if we are meeting the needs of a safe, inclusive community for all.

While your feedback will help us plan for the future, there are a few things we are already doing:

  • Council secured funding under NSW Government’s Graffiti Management Grant for Boronia Park, Hill Top with extra lighting, security cameras, new trees to make graffiti prone walls harder to access, safety fencing, artistic murals on facilities and community workshops.
  • Council runs regular programs that engage youth, such as arts & culture workshops, job upskilling and school holiday programs that focus on keeping young people occupied in positive ways and away from crime.
  • Community policing is a proactive approach where Southern Highland police officers engage directly with our community members, building relationships and trust. This approach reduces perceived fear, and encourages residents to report suspicious activities and participate in community programs.

When we talk about safety in Wingecarribee we are referring to crime prevention and the community's perception and fear of crime.
