Background Information
The Draft Electric Vehicle Charging Stations on Public Land Policy has been developed in response to the need to provide guidelines for Providers and Council when investigating and installing Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure (EVCI) on public land in the Wingecarribee Shire. The development of the draft Policy aims to facilitate and regulate the installation of EVCI on Council land in a sensible and controlled manner. It aims to facilitate the development of electric vehicle charging networks and the uptake of electric vehicles by our community. Preparation of the draft Policy addresses actions in Council’s new Community Emissions Action Plan and follows on as a component of Councils ‘Pathway to Net Zero’.
Councils’ commitment to addressing the climate emergency includes the transition of our fleet to electric vehicles as well as to support and encourage the uptake of electric vehicles by the community to aid reduction of emissions. The draft Policy will also facilitate an improved EV charging network which can assist visitation to the Southern Highlands region by drivers of electric vehicles especially where range anxiety may be an issue.
The draft Electric Vehicle Charging Stations on Public Land Policy will guide a safe, appropriate and consistent approach to proposals by providers and Council to install EVCI. The roles and responsibilities of parties and expected outcomes are outlined to ensure that they are well managed as an ongoing asset to the community.
