Proposal to suspend all interest on overdue rates for the period 1 July 2021 to 31 December 2021

28 October 2021

Council has implemented a range of measures to relieve the financial pressure on residents and businesses due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is also recognised that the payment of interest on overdue rates and charges may result in hardship in cases where ratepayers income has been affected by the Public Health Orders.

Therefore, Council, at its meeting on 8 September 2021, resolved that:

  1. Council defer the issuance of rates reminder notices due to the potential impact on businesses and residents
  2. Council, in accordance with Section 356 of the Local Government Act, undertake a 28 day public notification period in relation to the proposal to suspend all interest on overdue amounts for the period 1 Jul 2021 to 31 December 2021.
  3. Subject to no objections the General manager be authorised to implement Items 1 and 2 above.
