Mountain Bike Riding in Wingecarribee

Council acknowledges the growing popularity of Mountain Bike Riding within the Wingecarribee Shire and the increasing demand for designated trails. We also understand the importance of balancing this with the desire of some residents to prioritise biodiversity conservation and passive recreation in bushland reserves.

Authorised vs. Unauthorised Trails

While official Mountain Bike Riding trails exist in the Wingello State Forest, Welby (Mount Alexandra Reserve), and designated fire trails, unauthorised trails have also appeared in bushland reserves over time. These unauthorised trails pose environmental, heritage, and reputational risks to the Council, impacting legislation, community expectations, and the experience of other reserve users. Additionally, poorly constructed or unknown difficulty levels of these unauthorised trails can be dangerous for riders.

Where to from here
