Background:

Council is undertaking a review of the Low-Density Residential Development Controls following extensive community and industry consultation events held in 2022.

This review focuses solely on the low-density residential development controls within the Shire. The review does not consider population growth, land rezonings and housing affordability. Council is undertaking other separate projects to address these concerns.

Aims and Objectives:
  • Achieve a clear planning framework that is easy to use, understand and implement without undermining the local character of our towns and villages.
  • Streamline the assessment process and reduce development approval timelines.
  • Ensure new development is responsive to the Southern Highlands context and character.

Next Steps:

The Review of Low-Density Residential Development Controls will be reported at the Ordinary Meeting of Council on Wednesday, July 17 2024. The purpose of this will be to seek the adoption of the Review of Low-Density Residential Development Controls and endorsement of the Compliance Checklist and Development Application Submission Checklist for low-density residential developments.

The Meeting Agenda and attachments are to be made available on Council's website, which can be accessed here. If you wish to make an address in response to this agenda item, please register your interest via the application form.
