Council is undertaking a review of the Low-Density Residential Development Controls following extensive community and industry consultation events held in 2022.

This review focuses solely on the low-density housing controls contained within the area-based Development Control Plan for the Wingecarribee Shire. The review does not consider population growth, land re-zonings, housing needs/affordability or the desired future character of our towns and villages. Council is undertaking other separate projects to address these concerns.

Aims and Objectives:
  • Achieve the provision of a clear planning framework that is easy to use, understand and implement without undermining the local character of our towns and villages.
  • Streamline the assessment and approvals process.
  • Ensure new development is responsive to the Southern Highlands context and character.

Next Steps:

The Review of Low-Density Residential Development Controls will be presented to the Wingecarribee Local Planning Panel (LPP) next Friday, 28 June 2024. This will seek the advice of the Panel on the adoption of the Low-Density Residential Development Controls and endorsement of the Compliance Checklist for low-density residential developments.

The LPP Agenda is now available on Council's website, which can be accessed here. If you wish to address the Panel in response to this agenda item, please register your interest via the application form.
