Background Information

Safe Highlands has been developed using evidence from community and stakeholder consultation, data provided by the Southern Highlands Local Area Command, and crime statistics from the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research. It captures community concerns and provides targeted responses to emerging safety issues.

By integrating community input and data-driven insights, Safe Highlands outlines Council’s role in working with community agencies and residents to enhance perceptions of safety, reduce the risk of crime and antisocial behaviour, and respond effectively to domestic and family violence.

Safe Highlands identifies four themes and objectives:

  • Infrastructure and Public Space Safety

Improve the built environment to enhance safety, accessibility, and usability of pubic spaces

  • Emergency Preparedness and Community Resilience

Strengthen community capacity to respond t and recover from emergencies and disasters

  • Domestic and Family Violence (DFV)

Prevent and respond to domestic and family violence by increasing crisis support, improving legal and advocacy pathways, and educating the community

  • Crime Prevention

Strengthen community safety and inclusion by delivering coordinated crime prevention, road safety and partnership initiatives that reduce risk and build awareness

Your feedback is a way for you to share your thoughts and ideas on a particular issue or project. The goal is to make sure your voice and the community’s voices are heard and considered. It helps provide valuable insights, identify potential issues and suggest improvements. This way, decisions can be more inclusive, transparent and effective, reflecting what you and the community really needs and wants.

Responses to engagement projects are compiled and considered. When projects are reported to Council to make a decision a summary of community feedback will be included. Updates on projects will be included in these pages and elsewhere on Council's website.

Sometimes it takes some months to provide feedback to the community and to make a decision as further investigation is often needed. We are listening and we do take your suggestions on board!
