Public toilets make a practical difference to people actively enjoying our community spaces such as playgrounds. While Wingecarribee Shire Council has no statutory requirement to provide public toilets, public toilet provision supports an active and healthy community as identified in Council’s Community Strategic Plan.

Which sites were considered?

Three sites were identified for consideration for the provision of public toilets for Yerrinbool. These were:

Please note that the exact location of the amenities building is subject to minor changes on-site pending service locations.

Please note that the exact location of the amenities building is subject to minor changes on-site pending service locations.

For Council to construct any facilities within this area requires the approval of TAHE and the creation of a licence over the footprint of the facility. This is a lengthy process that can take up to 12 months and approval is not a guaranteed outcome.

Council engaged with the community and sought feedback on the preferred location through an online sur consultation survey. Face-to-face consultation sessions were also held with local residents on Thursday 18th January 2024 at M.F. Vickers Park, Yerrinbool, from 10am - 11am and 5pm - 6pm.

Which site was chosen?

After community consultation, M.F. Vickers Memorial Park in Everest Street, Yerrinbool has been chosen as the preferred site for a new public toilet amenities block.

The result was supported by Council and resolved at the 20 March 2024 Council Meeting. Please see the document library for a copy of the Council Report.

The M.F. Vickers Park on Everest Street location is the recommended location.

Why was this site chosen?

Several factors contributed to it being the recommended location:

  • the park is situated on council-owned land
  • a Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) has been undertaken and has shown that the principles of crime prevention are met
  • necessary investigation works and the Review of Environmental Factors (REF) have been completed and approved
  • sufficient space is available to accommodate both an accessible toilet and a unisex ambulant toilet

The location enjoys proximity to Yerrinbool Railway Station (185m) and Sunrise Playground (105m), catering to both railway commuters and playground users.

Next steps:

Council will initiate the second stage of community consultation after the concept design phase of the project, to get important feedback from the community.
