Council has been running the Wingecarribee Animal Shelter since the departure of our previous contractor, The Lost Dogs Home, in November 2013. Since that time we’ve been considering options for the ongoing operation of our shelter.

Providing a safe haven for lost and stray cats or dogs, keeping them protected until their owner (or a new owner) can be found, is quite an involved activity. While providing high standards of animal welfare we also need to meet some key criteria including adhering to our minimal euthanasia policy and industry guidelines as well as remaining cost effective and efficient.

Three models have been developed for consideration and we’re now seeking feedback from the community about these:

• Model 1 – Internal
• Model 2 – Mixture of Internal and External
• Model 3 – External
