Background

On 16 November 2023, Council resolved to exhibit a draft Plan of Management for the Mount Gibraltar Heritage Reserve.

A Plan of Management is a public document that sets out how community land is to be used, improved, managed, and maintained. Council develops Plans of Management under the Local Government Act 1993 and assigns one or more category to the land which will govern how the land can be used.

Next Steps

In accordance with s38 of the Local Government Act, the draft Plan of Management was on public exhibition in February earlier this year. Council received 50 submissions during the exhibition period and staff are currently preparing a post-exhibition report. This report will be presented to Council in the near future.

The draft Plan of Management can be viewed online in the Document Library on this page.

Community Engagement

The draft Plan of Management (POM) reflects community input gathered through:

  • A workshop held on June 16, 2022, at Renwick Community Centre with the Mount Gibraltar Landcare Bushcare Group.
  • An online community survey conducted on Council's previous engagement platform, Your Say Wingecarribee from 20 June to 19 July 2022.

Valuable community feedback on the area's values, management needs, land-use issues, and potential opportunities helped shape the draft POM. A summary of this feedback is available in the document library.

The Local Government Act plays a vital role in ensuring community involvement in developing the Plan of Management (PoM). Here's how:

  • Public Notice: We'll notify the community about the draft PoM for at least 28 days.
  • Your Say Matters: During this period, you'll have 42 days to provide your feedback and suggestions on the draft plan.
  • Clear Communication: The draft PoM and any relevant documents will be publicly exhibited, allowing you to understand the plan and its implications.

This approach ensures transparency and allows your voice to shape the final PoM.
