Murraural 4K Playspace: David Wood Inclusive Adventure playspace named

28 May 2025

The David Wood Playspace Project that is currently under construction is being delivered with funding provided by Wingecarribee Shire Council, NSW Governments Stronger Country Community Fund Grant, the Retford Park Planning Agreement and funding from local community group The 4K.

The naming of the new playspace as "Murraural 4K Playspace" was adopted by Council at the Wednesday 21 May Ordinary Meeting of Council. The contributions of The 4K, Wingecarribee Shire Council and Department of Regional NSW will be acknowledged on a plaque or similar upon completion at the entrance to the new playspace.

Murraural is pronounced Murra-wall. The name reflects community feedback and honours the local Aboriginal creation story of Gurangatch and Mirrigan, which centres on the Murraural waterhole at the confluence of the Wollondilly and Wingecarribee Rivers.

This story has directly shaped the playspace's design and features. Further details can be found in the Gurangatch and Mirragan Jenolan Caves article and the Community Engagement Summary report in the document library on the Participate Wingecarribee project page.

Thank you for providing feedback and for your valuable contribution.
